Carsen rhys beckwith
Program Director
Carsen believes that equitable access to quality, trauma-informed, and empathetic healthcare is vital to the survival of our communities.
Carsen is excited about Project HEAL because of its dedication to prioritizing communities who have historically not had access to eating disorder treatment. Centering the needs and desires of BIPOC, TGNC, and disabled people navigating eating disorders while breaking down barriers to care sets us on a path to health and wellness for all.
They are a dedicated advocate for equity and social change, with over eight years of experience leading work in addressing health disparities within queer communities, reproductive justice, organizational development, and creating pathways to meaningful community engagement. In Carsen’s most recent role as the Director of Programs and Grantmaking at the Transgender Strategy Center (TSC), they oversaw the organization's health equity-based grantmaking strategy and portfolio. Prior to joining the TSC leadership team, Carsen spent three years at AIDS United where they led capacity building initiatives and implemented operational rigor for key processes including monitoring and evaluation. As a trusted advisor and consultant, Carsen has also partnered with organizations on gender equity and inclusion education, as well as facilitating knowledge access for TGNC people to have the autonomy to create their own families through reproductive services and legal protections. Across their work, Carsen is informed by their deep love for queer bodies, joy, and liberation.
Carsen holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from American University with a minor in Spanish. They also completed a Master of Social Work from Washington University, with focused study on sexual health education and violence and injury prevention.
While Carsen is not a huge ice cream fan – they much prefer a sherbet or a cake – their favorite ice cream flavor is cookie dough.
