Admiral Rachel L. Levine serves as the 17th Assistant Secretary for Health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). As Assistant Secretary for Health, ADM Rachel Levine fights every day to improve the health and well-being of all Americans. As a physician, she focused on the intersection between mental and physical health, treating children, adolescents, and young adults. ADM Levine was Chief of the Division of Adolescent Medicine and Eating Disorders at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center. In addition to her recent posts in medicine and government, ADM Levine is an accomplished speaker and author of numerous publications on the opioid crisis, adolescent medicine, eating disorders, and LGBT medicine.

About our work
Tess Holliday, Honoree
Tess Holliday is a plus-size model, makeup artist, body positive activist, and blogger based in L.A. Holliday became the first size 22 model to sign with a major agency in 2015 and has been featured in Vogue, Inked Magazine, Inked Girls, Atomic Bombshells, Plus Model Magazine, Skorch Magazine, Cats Meow Magazine, and more. In 2019, Holliday came out as pansexual, and in 2021, she revealed that she was in recovery from anorexia. Holliday founded Eff Your Beauty Standards, a social-media movement where women can share positive images of themselves and find support from others all over the world, and she has modeled for brands like Torrid, Yours Clothing, Benefit Cosmetics, Monif Clarke, H&M, and Addition ELLE, oftentimes being the first plus size-model ambassador for brands.
Dr. Sabrina Strings, Honoree
Sabrina Strings, Ph.D. is Professor and North Hall Chair of Black Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Sabrina is also an award-winning author with publications in diverse venues including, Ethnic and Racial Studies; Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society, Fat Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Body Weight and Society and Feminist Media Studies. Her new book, Fearing the Black Body: The Racial Origins of Fat Phobia (NYU Press 2019), was named one of Essence magazine’s "10 Books We're Dying To Toss Into Our Summer Totes." It also made “must read” lists in Ms. Magazine, Colorlines, and Bitchmedia, and has been featured on NPR, KPFA and WNYC.
