How This Started and Why We Want To Do This: Ross Overline and Kristina Saffran became friends about a year ago when Kristina provided Ross support in dealing with a family member that was suffering from an eating disorder. During the last Fighting for 500 Gala auction, Ross bid on, and won, a trip for 4 to meet Arianna Huffington in New York City over coffee and a tour of her new Thrive Global headquarters.
Ross wanted to use the trip to have a positive impact on people who are struggling with burnout, because he has experienced it himself, knows how difficult it can be, and wants to help Thrive reach more people to solve the issue in their own lives. Kristina is also excited and committed to partnering on this to help bring attention to mental health issues like the ones Project HEAL is focused on addressing.
Objective: To help the world Thrive by spreading awareness of the growing problems of stress and burnout and inspiring tens of thousands of young men and women across the US to take steps towards reducing their stress, and improving their health through a viral video competition.
Why This Is Important To Us: The prevalence of eating disorders, sleep disorders, depressions, anxiety, and other stress induced/related psychological issues are widespread and growing in the US and around the globe at alarming rates. Better mental and physical health leads to a better world for all of us. When we thrive, we are able to more meaningfully contribute to the progress and improvement of the world around us.
About Project HEAL: The founders of Project HEAL, Liana Rosenman and Kristina Saffran, met while undergoing treatment for anorexia nervosa at just 13-years-old. The two girls helped each other to reach full recovery, and decided to help others achieve it as well.In the spring of 2008, both at the age of 15, they founded Project HEAL to raise money for others suffering with eating disorders who want to recover but are unable to afford treatment. Insurance coverage for eating disorders is severely lacking, leaving many unable to get the help they need. In 2017, Project HEAL expanded our mission to make a larger impact. In addition to providing assistance in accessing treatment, we are now strengthening early intervention and recovery support through our new peer mentorship program, Communities of HEALing.
About Thrive Global: Thrive Global’s mission is to end the stress and burnout epidemic by offering companies and individuals sustainable, science-based solutions to enhance both well-being and performance. Recent science has shown that the pervasive belief that burnout is the price we must pay for success is a delusion. We know, instead, that when we prioritize our well-being, our decision-making, creativity, and productivity improve dramatically. Thrive Global is committed to accelerating the culture shift that allows people to reclaim their lives and move from merely surviving to thriving.
